My Journey to the Sweet Spot
I’m LK, a Neurodivergent ✨🌈Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and specialist in neurodivergent topics.
...But I didn’t always know that about myself. In fact, I didn’t even know what “neurodivergent” meant until I was already in my 30s, well into my career as a practicing LPC.
Growing up, I was the classic high-achiever 🏆—gifted and talented programs, captain of multiple sports teams, socially adaptable, seemingly thriving. I did well, looked great on paper… until I wasn’t.
Burnout hit me before I even understood what it was. I was simply diagnosed with “Anxiety and Depression,” leaving me to believe I was just prone to crashing, broken in some way.
I pushed through. I worked, studied environmental design and writing in college, landed a job that took me around the world 🌍, and felt more at home on the road than I ever did in my hometown. But masking and forcing myself to “seem happy” took a toll. My mental health rose and fell in exhausting cycles 🔄.
In an attempt to save myself—and honestly, everyone I’d ever loved who had felt pain—I dove headfirst into mental health studies 📖. That journey led me deep into the field, ultimately earning my Master’s in Counseling (MA) 🎓 from the University of Colorado at Denver. Along the way, I became certified in trauma-informed care, body image issues, and a range of other specialties.
Then, finally, the missing pieces clicked into place. I received an ADHD diagnosis. And with a little more honesty and digging, I discovered I am also Autistic—an incredibly common discovery pathway in this space. I went on to obtain professional certifications in Autism and ADHD, blending brain science 🧠 with radical (self) compassion 💛 techniques.
Today, my personal experience and professional expertise intertwine in powerful ways, impacting individuals, families, schools, companies, and entire communities 🌱. Whether it’s deepening self-knowledge, understanding nervous system activation, improving communication, or setting better boundaries, I’ve worked with thousands of people to help them uncover their own “Neuro Sweet Spot” 🍬—a space where they don’t just survive, but thrive like never before 🚀.
